We hit an exciting milestone this year – LibLynx is ten years old! Not every start-up manages to weave themselves into the fabric of the publishing industry, and we’re extremely grateful for all the support we’ve had over the years from clients, partners, and the many individuals who have contributed their ideas and time towards our success.
With a virtual team of 15 spread across five countries and five time zones, we celebrated with birthday cakes from local bakeries. All were given the exact same instructions, so you can see from this photo how creative they were in the execution 🙂 – including one birthday message in Cyrillic!
Our tenth birthday is also a chance to think about where we’ve come from. LibLynx was born out of frustration with the lack of good identity & access solutions for publishers. Having already worked with industry vendors for over a decade, we felt confident that we could switch to the other side of the table and more effectively deliver the solutions that publishers needed.
We launched our groundbreaking, cloud-based IAM service for publishers in 2015, and expanded to offer a resource access control solution to libraries in 2017. In 2018, we entered the analytics arena with our real-time, on-demand COUNTER-compliant reporting solution for publishers – and then expanded into COUNTER reporting for open access in 2020. Our partnership with PSI in 2023 led to the development of Touchstone, an analytics solution focused on communicating the usage and impact of open access content. And, more recently, we kicked off an ambitious project to re-imagine the analytics reporting experience as a way to communicate the impact of publishing.
Along the way, we’ve grown to over 60 clients globally, ranging in size from large government departments and corporations through to small university presses and humanities publishers. We now process well over 1 billion authentication and analytics events annually.
What hasn’t changed is our culture, which remains innovative, collaborative, and empowering. As a niche player in a large industry, our success comes from operating at the leading edge and we are often the first in our area to launch new services and deploy new technologies. Our solutions combine a lot of complex domain knowledge, so we work best when we pool our skills and experience. And we all value roles that are challenging and satisfying, which comes from feeling supported and empowered to move ahead.
Best of all, we’re brimming with ideas for innovative new solutions – so here’s to the next 10 years!!
